| MP
for the Gosport constituency, Peter Viggers, has added his support
for the campaign to save the King Edward VII hospital in Midhurst
from closure.
He
said, "The imminent closure of the King Edward VII hospital
will have a significant impact on the wider area. In central
southern England we already have serious health problems.
In addition to financial difficulties, we simply cannot afford
to lose the capacity that this hospital provides, given that
Portsmouth will be unable to cope with the additional influx
of patients. It is not possible to lose any facilities within
the NHS or allied health services without causing waiting
lists to increase and patients who desperately need treatment
to suffer unnecessarily.
"The
serious consequences of the closure of yet more facilities
within our area transcend party politics Nearly all those
of us who represent constituencies within central southern
England have expressed concern at the Government's inability
to bring departments together in 'joined-up government' to
rectify the possible loss of the superb facilities at the
King Edward VII hospital.
"The
loss of any hospital facilities in our area will worsen a
situation that I have already described as dire. I hope that
the Minister takes account of the strong feeling about this
issue and urgently reviews the plans for closure."
