MP
for the Gosport constituency, Peter Viggers, will on Monday
lead an attack on means-tested benefits for pensioners.
During
questions in the House, Peter will ask the Secretary of State
for Work and Pensions, Andrew Smith, for details of exactly
how many pensioners are now eligible for means-testing.
Peter
said, "The Chancellor, Gordon Brown, stated prior to
taking office that it would be a Labour government's intention
to remove the need for means-tested benefits for pensioners.
But, the larger number of pensioners are now means-tested
for their benefits and the situation is becoming worse. The
Government is failing badly in its duty to pensioners, and
I will use every opportunity available to force Ministers
to address the problem."
