DAEDALUS

The Minister of State for the Home Office, Beverley Hughes MP, has refused an urgent appeal by Peter Viggers, MP for Gosport, to attend the public meeting at Lee-on-the-Solent on Saturday, 15th February.

Mr Viggers said today: "I pressed the Minister to attend the public meeting, or to send a Home Office representative, in order to answer the questions being asked by local residents. I reminded her of the statement she made earlier this week in which she said: 'We will be working closely with the local community as we develop our proposals and go through the planning process.' Now the Minister has refused an opportunity to hear the comments and questions of local residents, despite being given four days' notice, and having had the importance and urgency of the matter stressed to her.

This is shameful. We will have to consider how we can most effectively make our case against Daedalus being used as an asylum centre."
