MP REQUESTS ACCESS TO DAEDALUS SITE

MP for the Gosport constituency, Peter Viggers, has written to the Defence Minister, Geoff Hoon, to request permission to visit the HMS Daedalus site as a matter of urgency.

Peter said, "We have been told that the proposal to introduce a centre for asylum seekers at Daedalus is still under discussion, and I want to confirm for myself that no work has yet begun towards this end. A number of rumours are circulating within the local area, suggesting that steps are already in progress towards the development of the centre on the Daedalus site. I sincerely hope that these rumours are unfounded and that no such moves have begun, as this would be totally unacceptable prior to any formal decision being taken about the site's future. I have written to the Minister, seeking permission to see the situation there personally and hope that my request will be granted."
