MP
FOR THE Gosport constituency, Peter Viggers, today welcomed
the Post Office's announcement that pensioners will still
be able to collect their state pension from the Post Office
despite changes to the way in which benefits are paid by the
Government.
From
this month, the Government has begun to pay state pensions
directly into the bank accounts of recipients. However, there
are three choices for customers who wish to continue to receive
their payments at a Post Office branch. They will be able
to use a current account with a bank or building society with
whom the Post Office has an agreement, a basic bank account,
or a Post Office Card account.
Peter
said, "Over 14 million people presently collect benefit
payments from their local Post Offices. Post Offices have
always been the natural place for customers to collect these
benefits and there is no reason that this should not continue.
Although it will take time for the system to become fully
operational, I urge pensioners to make themselves aware of
the payment options available so that they know which best
suits them when the changes start to affect them".
