Peter Viggers, Member of Parliament for Gosport, has put
down a number of Questions to the Home Secretary about the
possible use of the Daedalus site as an accommodation centre
for immigrants seeking political asylum, and the text follows
in an annex.
Mr Viggers said today:
“ The latest
information I have is that the announcement of the planning
decision relating to the Bicester site has
been delayed, possibly until the autumn. It may be that the decision
to put 750 immigrants in a sparsely populated rural area
has caused difficulties.
It has seemed likely that the Daedalus decision was awaiting
the announcement at Bicester, and that any announcement relating
to Daedalus is also delayed.
In a sense, no
news is good news, but I am very conscious of the intense
difficulty that this will cause residents
of Lee-on-the-Solent who had been hoping to sell their
houses because the property market in west Lee-on-the-Solent
is
effectively at a standstill. We must try to be patient
while we continue to campaign to have this threat lifted
from us.” |
