Peter Viggers, Member of Parliament for Gosport, attended
the launch this week of a campaign entitled Five Pledges
of Depression. The programme was arranged by a body called
Engaging Service Users with depression, which is a new group
set up by five bodies that have special interest in mental
illness.
Peter Viggers said after the meeting:
“
This is part of the Government’s programme to give
priority to mental illness. For years it has been the Cinderella
of the National Health Service. One in four people has
some form of mental illness at some stage during their
life and,
of course, this also affects family and friends. I believe
that involving the service user (a more friendly word for
a mental patient) in the treatment is likely to be a very
helpful way ahead in many cases.”
On Friday, 4th July Peter Viggers will make a series of visits
to mental health facilities in the area. He will visit Hewat
House in Gosport, Lee Grove House in Lee-on-the-Solent, Coldeast
Hospital and The Meadows. |
