Peter
Viggers, MP for the Gosport constituency, said today:
“ I am seriously concerned about budgetary pressure on the Hampshire
Police Authority. The situation is explained in the attached
letter from the Hampshire Police Authority.
In summary, the
Government is giving about 3% increase to the Hampshire
Police but this is totally inadequate to fund
the increased costs which the Government itself is imposing
on police forces. Increased pay and national insurance and
pension costs mean that the Policy Authority needs 6% increase
simply to stand still. Because of the “gearing” effect
the burden on council tax payers will again be very heavy
in the coming year.
I am deeply concerned
on behalf of pensioners and others on fixed incomes for
whom the level of council tax is now
becoming untenable.” |
