Peter
Viggers, Member of Parliament for Gosport, put down a number
of Parliamentary Questions for answer by the Home Office
and the five questions and answers are attached.
Commenting on the replies, Mr Viggers said today:
“ The Home
Office is very unhelpful in responding to questions about
its plans. One answer in particular will
infuriate
local residents. The Home Office says that an accommodation centre
in the locality would not necessarily depress house prices.
The truth is that the housing market in the western part
of Lee-on-the-Solent, near Daedalus, has been at a standstill
since February (when the Home Office first stated that
it was considering the Daedalus site as an accommodation
centre).
A leading estate agent has told me that he has sold no
houses in Western Lee since February. He said that vendors
could
perhaps sell their houses by slashing the price dramatically, but no-one
has yet dared or chosen to do this.
I feel deeply
sympathetic to the small number of people who have made
plans to move and have found in practical
terms
it is impossible to sell their house.” |
