Peter
Viggers MP has urged local residents to make their voices
heard once more in the fight to retain services at the Royal
Hospital Haslar.
The Fareham and Gosport Primary Care Trust is now to consult
on two options for the provision of secondary care on the
Gosport peninsula.
There will be a number of public meetings, and it now up
to local people to make their views clear.
Peter said, “The
Haslar Task Force considered various ways of mobilising
again the massive local support for the
hospital. We decided not to propose another march or rally,
but do plead for huge attendance at the public meetings,
and a clear expression of views.
“We need
one more heave towards our goal. The Haslar option is on
the table and it is up to all of us to make
sure that the PCT accepts the will of local people.”
On a point of
detail, the PCT says that it will ask the accountants,
Ernst & Young, to cost the Haslar option.
Peter Viggers has written to Lucy Docherty, Chair of the
PCT, pointing out that there should first be a study of the
medical and surgical roles that can be fulfilled locally,
and the facilities that can be best employed to undertake
these. Peter has asked the PCT that the- study should be
undertaken by Andy Black, a leading hospital planning consultant,
who is currently carrying out a similar study in West Cornwall.
Details of dates and venues for the meetings will be circulated
very soon. |
