Peter
Viggers, MP for the Gosport constituency, yesterday used
an Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons to again raise
the issue of healthcare on the Gosport peninsula and the
future of the Royal Hospital Haslar.
Peter said afterwards, “I
explained to the Minister that in their proposals the PCT
are working on models that
do not compare like with like. Gosport War Memorial Hospital
was a cottage hospital, has been expanded and is a busy site,
but it will not take further expansion. Haslar, on the other
hand, is a former district general hospital with superb facilities
and equipment already in place.
”My concern is that the PCT’s consultation should
be genuine – there is absolute and unwavering conviction
amongst local people that Haslar is needed and I ask the
PCT to listen to what the people are asking for – and
make their decision honestly and straightforwardly on that
basis.” |
