back to press release pageSIR ALAN BUDD’S ENQUIRY

A series of Questions put down for Priority Answer on Monday, 6th December have finally been answered by the Home Secretary. He confirms that Sir Alan Budd will have no special authority to carry out his enquiries. He will have to ask to see papers and people rather than have the right to demand them.

Peter Viggers, MP for Gosport, has today put down a further Question for Priority Answer on Monday, 20th December. This asks whether Sir Alan Budd will be able to enquire into matters other than the original allegation that a nanny’s visa to remain in the United Kingdom was fast tracked.

Peter Viggers said today:

“This is important. The original enquiry was very narrow in its terms of reference and Sir Alan Budd should be free to make all relevant enquiries. In any event there is an apparent conflict between the original narrow terms of reference and the statement by the Lord Chancellor on the Today programme that there will be no limits to Sir Alan’s enquiries.”
