Peter
Viggers, MP for the Gosport constituency, has demanded an
urgent response from the Secretary of State for Health, asking
him to ensure that final contracts for the PFI bid to redevelop
Queen Alexandra Hospital are not signed until local healthcare
plans have been reviewed.
Peter said, “It
is understood that representatives from the Portsmouth
Hospitals Trust have been in London this
week to negotiate final contract details for the PFI.
“I have
asked the Secretary of State if he will instruct the PHT
not to enter into any such contract until he has
received the independent advice of the Independent Reconfiguration
Panel on local healthcare plans.
“As a priority question, I must be given an answer
on this by Tuesday 1 February and I am sure we are all very
concerned to know what that answer will be”.
