back to press release pageMORE HELP NEEDED FOR WAR VETERANS

Peter Viggers, MP for the Gosport constituency, will meet tomorrow (Tuesday 17 January) with Minister for Veterans, Don Touhig MP, to discuss the need for more support for service personnel suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and similar conditions.

Peter said today, “The issue was highlighted initially by a constituency case during which it became apparent that there were now no specific Ministry of Defence facilities for former service personnel suffering from PTSD. Those needing medical help are being referred to the NHS for treatment, and there is little or no facility to provide this support in our area.

“It is an unfortunate fact that service in any of our armed forces can put some individuals under great strain and some will undoubtedly need subsequent medical and psychological support to cope with their experiences."

“I will be discussing this issue with the Minister to ensure that facilities are available to those who need help.”
