MP
FOR GOSPORT, PETER VIGGERS, this week received an assurance
from the Government on plans for the rebuilding of the
Up Harbour Ammunitions facility in Portsmouth Harbour.
In
answer to Peter’s Parliamentary Question on the
subject, the Minister, Adam Ingram MP, confirmed that options
were currently being assessed for the rebuilding of the
Ammunitions Facility so that it will be capable of supporting
the Type 45 destroyer and other classes of ships up to
10,000 tonnes. The Minister added that, on current plans,
the facility would be in place for loading ammunititon
on the first Type 45 destroyer, HMS Daring, in October
2008.
Peter
commented, “The Minister’s confirmation
that the facility is to be rebuilt is good news. It means
that Type 45 destroyers can be based in Portsmouth, which
is important for crew and their families who are close
by”. |
