WHEELCHAIR PROVISION FOR CHILDREN
Loughton, Tim
That
this House welcomes the joint report by Whizz-Kidz and
Barnardos on the current state of wheelchair provision
to children; is concerned that many of the 70,000 UK children
who require wheelchairs are not given essential mobility
equipment that meets their needs; recognises that this
has a dramatic impact on their families and a negative
effect on their childhood and future life chances; and
urges the Government to give greater priority within current
budgeted departmental spending to ensuring that all disabled
children have access to appropriate wheelchairs

NATIONAL CHILDCARE MONTH
Willetts, David
That
this House welcomes National Childcare Month, which is
being organised by the Daycare Trust, Kids' Clubs Network,
the National Day Nurseries Association, the National Childminding
Association and the Pre-School Learning Alliance; notes
that it will highlight the importance of childcare for
children, parents and the whole community; and believes
that good quality childcare helps to ensure that children
get the best possible start in life.

INTERNATIONAL WHALING COMMISSION
Wiggin, Bill
That
this House recognises the significant role played by the
International Whaling Commission in protecting whales;
further recognises the importance of continuing with that
protection; is concerned about the success of diplomatic
actions by pro-whaling countries which are attempting to
take control of the International Whaling Commission; and
calls upon the British Government to act to maintain the
anti-whaling status quo.

INTRODUCTION OF HOME INFORMATION PACKS
Gove, Michael
That
this House expresses concern over the introduction of home
information packs from 2007; notes that industry experts
have advised that home information packs will add up to £1,000
to the cost of buying an average home and duplicate the
ongoing need for a valuation or structural survey; believes
that they will discourage potential sellers from putting
their homes on the market; notes that smaller solicitors
and estate agents may be adversely affected; observes that
the Government will benefit from a potential £110
million VAT windfall from the packs and that the Home Condition
Register could be used to conduct a council tax revaluation
by stealth; questions the lack of a proper dry run and
whether sufficient home inspectors will be properly trained
by 2007; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to
push for their implementation to be delayed or cancelled
in order to protect the stability of the housing market.

NSPCC'S DON'T HIDE IT CAMPAIGN
Malik, Shahid
That
this House warmly welcomes the NSPCC's Don't Hide It campaign
to encourage children to speak out about sexual abuse;
recognises that the great majority of children who have
been abused receive no help to deal with the serious and
lasting damage it can cause; and supports the NSPCC's call
for access to therapeutic services for all children who
have been sexually abused.
