MP
for Gosport, Peter Viggers, has finally received some positive
news in response to pressure for increased NHS dental provision
in the area.
Speaking
today, he said, “I have received
countless complaints from residents about the lack of available
NHS dental care. Many people have had to travel for miles
outside the area for treatment or have had to pay for private
care. I have repeatedly challenged those responsible through
Parliamentary Questions, speeches and correspondence with
Ministers – and at last there appears to be some
hope of progress.”
Peter
has received an assurance from Hampshire PCT that in addition
to recent increased in NHS dental capacity, work is now
under way to negotiate additional provision across Fareham
and Gosport. Plans include new NHS dental practices in
Lee-on-the-Solent and Rowner, the expansion of an existing
practice in Rowner – and
increased activity for existing NHS dental practices across
Gosport and Fareham.
Peter
added, “This sounds like
a positive step but we need to wait until these facilities
are actually open. I will continue to press the issue until
we can see real improvements in the amount of NHS dental
facilities across the area and a drastic cut in the level
of the appalling waiting lists that local people have had
to endure.”
“Anyone who needs to find a local
NHS dentist should contact the Dental Helpline on 023 8033
8336 to be placed on the waiting list”. |
