back to press release pageOur Injured Troops and Military Medicine

The Chief of General Staff (General Sir Richard Dannatt) has visited Selly Oak Hospital and praised the medical care available in Birmingham. My comment is that no-one denies that Selly Oak and Birmingham University Hospital can provide good medical care.

What we say is that there remains a place for a dedicated military hospital which can support care in a military environment and help recuperation.

It is a tragedy and a mistake that the Ministry of Defence is to withdraw from our only military hospital – the Royal Hospital Haslar – on 31 March this year.

Is it really too late to correct this error?
