Peter
Viggers, MP for Gosport, and campaigning to retain Britain’s
only remaining military hospital at the Royal Hospital
Haslar in his constituency, has been told he may not visit
Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham which is the current centre
of defence medicine where injured service personnel are
treated.
Mr
Viggers explained today “I wrote to the
Minister of State, asking for permission to visit Selly
Oak as a follow-up visit. I have a long term interest in
Defence Medicine and last visited Selly Oak two years ago.
The Junior Minister (Derek Twigg MP) has said that Selly
Oak has had a large number of visitors and that the area
in which servicemen are treated has become very sensitive.
I reiterated my request to visit but have had no reply.
I have now put down a Parliamentary Question asking when
I may expect to receive a reply to my latest letter.” |
