Peter Viggers, the Member of Parliament for Gosport commented to-day on the special debate he instituted yesterday in the House of Commons, on the subject of the Daedalus Airfield. Peter said “I was pleased to have the chance to put the case for general aviation at Daedalus (these are the commercial and private aircraft which have used the airfield for many years).
The Minister’s reply to my debate was bitterly disappointing, he simply said that Hampshire Police are the airfield managers and the government has no power to overrule them.
We now have the preposterous position that the police have banned flying with effect from to-day. The only fixed wing aircraft allowed to take off and land is the police airplane.
Where else in the world is an airfield maintained for one aeroplane?
In the end sanity must prevail and arrangements must be made for other aircraft to use the airfield. This would of course relieve the taxpayer of some of the costs involved. Peter Viggers MP.
